Nitrogen is also used as powder delivery gas, instrument gas, flame retardant gas, etc. Argon is mainly used to improve the quality of steel.

For example, argon gas is blown into molten molten steel to make the composition uniform, the molten steel is purified, and impurities such as hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen dissolved in the molten steel can be removed to improve the quality of the billet. The comprehensive nitrogen consumption of iron making, steel making and steel rolling is 80-120m3/t steel, and the comprehensive argon consumption is 3-4m3/t steel.

Mainly used as shielding gas, such as steel rolling, galvanizing, chrome plating, heat treatment (especially thin steel sheet) continuous casting, etc., nitrogen is used as shielding gas, and the purity of high-purity nitrogen is required to be more than 99.999%.

The chemical inertness of argon is used in the smelting of special metals: when the nuclei of lithium, beryllium, uranium, plutonium, titanium, zirconium, hafnium, niobium, tantalum and other rare metals are required for reduction reactions in the space industry, argon is used. as ambient gas. During the refining of semiconductor materials silicon and germanium and the preparation of single crystals, argon gas is also used as the ambient gas to protect the crystal growth with broken bridge aluminum alloy doors and windows.

Argon is also used in the steelmaking process: for example, argon is blown into the molten molten steel to make the composition uniform, the molten steel is purified, and impurities such as hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen dissolved in the molten steel can be removed to improve the quality of the billet. Blowing argon can also cancel the reduction period, shorten the smelting time, increase production, and save electricity. Argon blowing and protection is an important way to improve the quality of steel, which has been adopted by most steel mills in my country.
